Verdon sur Mer Guide
Verdon sur Mer is protected from the winter swells and storms by its geographic situation. A day on the Atlantic coast with a full storm hitting the coastline and west winds blowing hard will give off shore winds (and sometimes a bit of sun) on the village main street as the most northern village of the Medoc is nesseled inside the mouth of the Gironde Estuary just after the Pointe de Grave (Where you will find the ferry crossing to Royan).
This little village due to its protected postion; weather and situation (you can still see the amored pillboxes from WW2 hiding in the trees along the estuary water front) has the largest commercial port of the Medoc sitting to the south and the latest pleasure port of the Aquitaine " Port du Medoc" sitting to the north.
Drive down the cobbled road to the eastern side of the village pass the car park on the estuary front (a good camping car stop over) and you will find the Tennis Club of Verdon sur Mer. To your left the fishing port of Verdon sur Mer with its small tidal creaks opening up into the Gironde Estuary.
Summer months in the region
La Chambrette beach of Verdon sur Mer with its hobie-cat sailing, windsurfing school and two/ three beach restaurants, open during the summer months (with fine views of the estuary) feels as if it has been caught in a time warp compaired to the busy Atlantic coastal resorts to the west.
